Keep Calm, Carry On and Enjoy these Alternatives!

I love this motto -  and I think it goes without saying that most women in the world adore it.

FACT - Keep Calm and Carry On was a poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of the Second World War, intended to raise the morale of the British public under the threat of impending invasion. It was little known and never used.

So today I have found some alternatives that have given me a little giggle!

Enjoy!!

Tram Scrolls

Before we left Melbourne, Husband and I spotted a tram scroll tea towel that listed all of the suburbs that we had lived in - it now finds it's place framed in the post office residence.

I have a slight addiction to tram scrolls and have found a couple of sites in the last couple of days - and one where you can custom make your own.

Bluehorizonprinting along with sister site Tramscrolls are loaded with wonderful scrolls and you can even get them to make your own.....I can see one for the Snowy Mountains being created today!!

I'd Like To Introduce to You.....

My Three Fur Children!

I'm acutally surprised that I have not done this earlier.

So from the top we have Matilda, then Charlie and our latest addition Bowie.

Matilda and Charlie are twins and come from Tatura in Victoria, they will be 5 in October and Bowie came to live with us when we bought the post office last year and in a few weeks he will turn 8.

They are Jack Russell's and as such are little barrels of energy and fun and not to mention the most loving little pooches you could hope to have.

All three are much loved additions not only to our family but to the whole community with them all playing a part in post office operations each day!!

Winners from Dalgety Show

My Aunt and Uncle are brilliant at growing roses and dahlias.

In short - THEY ARE CHAMPIONS at what they do.

2011 Dalgety Show Champion Roses
2011 Dalgety Show Champion Dahlia

2010 Dahlias & Roses - all entered by Uncle John and Aunty Nett & look at all those placings!!

They take their roses and dahlias all over southern NSW and to Canberra and Sydney Shows where they always come home with Champion Ribbons.

Uncle John is also famous for his chooks and they also take out many awards around the traps!!

They hail from Bredbo which is on the way from Cooma to Canberra which is also home to the famous crepe shop....Mmmmmm crepes

So Well Done you two again for another successful show campaign!

For Me.....Really???

Yesterday I attended the Snowy River Shire Council's International Women's Day morning tea.

I met some fabulous ladies including Senator Ursula Stevens who really has set my head racing with ideas to celebrate and embracing what we girls do!!

During the morning tea though I was singled out for the work that I am currently doing by establishing a Business Women's Dinner in my little town.

I thought know one knew who I was!

The ladies from Westpac found my dinner idea as fabulous and it's formation presents a wonderful opportunity for business women in my town to be able to network and have fun whilst acknowledging how fabulous we are as business women.

I was presented with a book called "The Power of 100" which was released yesterday by Westpac and celebrates 100 amazing Australian Women who have made a contribution to the way we are today.

"It's time to ignite the passion for future generations of women and girls to achieve their ambitions,
both personal and professional."
Gail Kelly, CEO.

So I had a wonderful day yesterday and I urge you all to go out to your nearest Westpac branch and grab your own copy of the book - its truly inspiring!!

The Show - How Did I Go??

Well  - not very successful I'm afraid.

For some reason my Banana Cake and Carrot Cake (both previous winners) didn't cook through.

Not sure what happened as the Date Loaf and Chocolate Cake were fine!! I have my suspicions that mum came in and turned off the oven but that's a whole other story!!!

BUT - in good news - My GREEN TOMATOES WON!!! Who would have thought!

So here is a pics of my tommies - very proud of them - and for the record ALL of the cakes have been devoured by customers in the post office!!

I'll be back next year Dalgety!!

Its Show Time!!

The ingrediants have been bought.

I've lodged my entry form.

The eggs have been stockpiled.

Its SHOW TIME!!

Dalgety Show to be exact and I am so excited.

I entered about 10 cakes last year and had some success, but this year I have cut back on the entries so I don't have a repeat of the 2010 cooking nervous breakdown!!

So 2011 will see me try to defend my Date Loaf title and try to improve on my second placings for Banana Cake and Chocolate Cake and I have two new entries - Carrot Cake and in the produce section - Green Tomatoes!!

So all in all my Saturday will be filled with eggs, sugar and flour and Sunday will be filled with the anticipation of seeing my efforts on display and maybe with a ribbon.....or two!

Still makes me giggle - look how flat she was!!! I'll be doubling the mixture this year!

The cake didn't make it back home - was eaten by family and friends at the Dalgety Pub that night!
